Activities of KVK

1. Training and Extension Activities:

  • Farmer Training: KVKs offer training programs for farmers on various aspects of agriculture such as crop production, plant protection, soil health, water management, organic farming, Livestock farming, fish farming and post-harvest technologies.

  • Youth and Women Empowerment: Training rural youth and women in agricultural activities, such as kitchen gardening, poultry farming, and handicrafts, to make them self-reliant and economically independent.

2. Field Demonstrations:

  • Demonstrating the application of modern agricultural technologies such as integrated pest management (IPM), integrated nutrient management (INM), drip irrigation, and mechanization to enhance farm productivity.

3. Diagnostic and Advisory Services:

  • Providing farmers with free or affordable diagnostic services for pest and disease management, soil testing, and water quality testing.
  • Giving personalized advice to farmers based on their specific challenges and farm conditions.

4. On-Farm Research and Extension:

  • Conducting on-farm research to refine and validate new agricultural practices in real farm conditions.
  • Offering training and advice on how to implement these new techniques on farmers’ fields for improved production and sustainability.

5. Seed and Planting Material Production:

  • KVKs produce and distribute quality seeds and planting materials for various crops to ensure the availability of improved varieties that are disease-resistant and high-yielding.

6. Post-harvest Management and Value Addition:

  • Offering guidance on how to store, process, and preserve agricultural produce, which helps to reduce post-harvest losses and enhance value addition.
  • Encouraging farmers to adopt innovative ways of processing their produce, such as setting up small-scale agro-processing units.

7. Soil and Water Conservation:

  • Promoting sustainable practices like soil conservation, water management, and rainwater harvesting to improve agricultural productivity and safeguard natural resources.

8. Livestock and Fisheries Extension:

  • Providing extension services for dairy farming, poultry farming, fish farming, and other livestock-related activities.
  • Promoting improved breeding and feeding practices for better animal health and productivity.

9. Agri-business Development:

  • Assisting farmers in identifying profitable business opportunities in agriculture, from crop production to processing and marketing, thereby helping them enhance their income.

10. Networking and Linkages:

  • Facilitating linkages with various organizations, government schemes, NGOs, and markets to provide farmers with the necessary resources, support, and market access.

11. Exposure Visit:

  • An exposure visit organized by a KVK is designed to give farmers practical knowledge through field visits, workshops, and interactive learning sessions.
